Version 8.7.1 is a maintenance release based on comments and suggestions we have received from the Thoroughbred community; both through the Thoroughbred mail-list forum and our support department. While primarily a maintenance release resolving over 100 problem reports, the release also includes approximately 25 enhancements. A few highlights are:

New OS Support: Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and above (Darwin 10.3.3 and above), IBM AIX 6 & 7

  • PRM JOURNALING now includes entries for SAVE and PSAVE
  • Journaling is now available for Windows
  • TFF() XML functions now supports occurrences fields in formats
  • T-RemoteControl™ can now handle Process Numbers up to 8 digits and will display background processes.
  • The NUM() function can now produce ERR=26 for embedded spaces
  • The Script-IV compiler will now utilize the standard OPENworkshop® debugger
  • Report-IV™ to PDF now supports a Pre Convert Method.
  • VIP support for automatic conversion of prompt messages into buttons
  • VIP will right align all numeric fields in a View column
  • TS ReportServer™ support for a close "No to All" option
  • TbredComm™ AutoLogons will send the domain user name to a telnet Basic™ session
  • Basic activation via the Internet is available during installation
  • The CTC operations have been enhanced to allow table by table control for commit counts
  • The total number of allowable ghost tasks (up to 62) is controlled by the Basic user count
  • The Basic user count on UNIX/Linux systems can be updated with ./install -a

NOTE: It is important that before you install you first review the updated Installation manuals for the following products:

  • TbredComm and the VIP Product Suite
  • TS Environment™ for Windows
  • TS NetworkBasic™ with DataServer
  • The following TS DataServer™ Family products (new activation procedure)
    • TS Network DataServer
    • TS DataServer for Oracle
    • TS DataServer for MS SQL Server

Reporting Problems

When reporting problems please be sure to include the build/version number.

The Thoroughbred Basic version and date can be accessed using the DUMP VERSION directive. From Basic Console Mode type in DUMP VERSION and press the Enter key.

The OPENworkshop version number and release date are available from the Version Manager on the System Administration Menu. To verify the build date of a specific program simply list line 10 of any OWS program (i.e. "OO").

The VIP for Dictionary-IV® (client), TbredComm, TS ReportServer, TS ChartServer™ and Gateway for Windows™ build numbers should be verified at the executable level. Please do not use the VIP Version manager. To verify individual executables:

For Windows Server 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server 2003, right mouse click on an executable. Select 'Properties', select the 'Version' tab and highlight 'Product Version'. The detailed build information will be displayed in a panel on the right.

For Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008/Windows 7, right mouse click on an executable. Select 'Properties', select the 'Details' tab. The detailed build information will be displayed in the 'Product Version' field.
